Why Bollywood Films are Resulting in Flop at The Box Office
We have seen since the covid-19 pandemic Bollywood Films are Resulting in Flops at the box office. People are trolling on social media statements like Bollywood is finished. The statements are a result of the constant box office failure of Hindi films in the last 8 months. There have been some exceptional films also, became a Hit at the box office. Films like Bell Bottom, Herepanti 2, and Bachchan Pandey do not make the hype among audiences come to the theatre. In the pre-pandemic times, the numbers would have been higher than what they are today. Nowadays Audiences have become smarter, they only want to see good content in the hall.
Why Bollywood Films are Resulting in Flop
Yes, in the pre-pandemic times, the numbers would have been higher than what they are today, but the result would have still been the same…Rather than blaming the pandemic and change in audience taste, the industry needs to introspect and create content that genuinely excites the audience to visit the big screen, said Himesh Mankad. There are so many reasons we have discussed below:
Unnecessary Hype and Nepotism –
Bollywood makes unnecessary hypes, such that people feel that something there is in it. But the worst fact is, that 80% of the Bollywood movies turned out to be trash. Movies like Veere Di Wedding, Befikrey, Dhadak, Dhoom 3, Thugs of Hindustan, Zero, and Race 3 made hypes and turned out as colossal flops.
Nepotism exists in every film industry, but in Bollywood, it’s so huge. Actors like Jhanvi Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Harshavardhan Kapoor, Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan, etc are actors who come from the background of Nepotism. The acting skills of these actors are extremely gross, such that it’s so impossible to watch their acting in movies.
Bad Music and Lyrics –
Music and Lyrics play an important role in every movie, Bollywood lyricists are spoiling the old songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Alka Yagnik, etc. For Example The song Chikni Chameli was remade from the Marathi song Kombdi Palali.
“Audiences are now demanding both – great content and big scale,” says Bhushan Kumar. As makers like him grapple with changing audience tastes, and the fragmentation of viewership between theatres and streaming platforms, greenlighting a film has become trickier than ever.
Bollywood Successful Films After The Covid-19 Pandemic
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, a horror comedy produced by Mr. Kumar’s T Series, became one of the biggest grosser of 2022. Despite this makers could not understand what type of film worked at the box office. Shamshera, an action drama starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt became a flop at the box office.
“The first half of 2022 did have its fair share of challenges including the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, which impacted the first two months of the year. sooryavanshi, gangubai kathiawadi became an exceptional film for Bollywood financial year 2021-2022.
Bollywood is now betting on a string of highly anticipated releases like Laal Singh Chaddha, the Hindi remake of Forrest Gump. “There will be cases where audiences will opt to postpone their trip to the cinemas and wait for the movies to come out on the OTT platform, particularly where the content is sub-par,” says the report by Emkay Global.
