In the past, Keywords were the entire concept in SEO. The search engine would write keywords thousands or hundreds of times and then find ways to hide them from readers’ eyes by blending them with backgrounds, putting them out of the central point, or employing various other tricks to hide them.
These days are gone – as are keywords, too.
The answer is no! Let’s examine why keywords are significant and the best way to use the research on keywords to help guide the content we create.
The foundation of SEO
The name of this section is humorous that there is no “core” to SEO, aside from the objective of being ranked well in search results.
I am asking you: are you ranking highly in what in search engines? In the end, people use words to search. We’re trying to discover the terms people use for services and products similar to yours. Or for details about your company. We will then focus on the words that are being searched for.
These are the keywords we use to describe.
It is possible to categorize these keywords according to intention. Many search terms have an informational purpose, meaning that the user wants to understand something. Some keywords are commercial, meaning the user is searching for a product to purchase.

Keywords aren’t dead.
Some make outrageous claims about keywords being dead. “Voice search has killed keywords!” They’ll declare. “Natural language processing means keywords aren’t relevant!” they’ll scream.
Both of these assertions are, to put it simply, ridiculous.
The first issue is the voice search issue. There are two things to be aware of:
- Many of the searches remain text-based
- Voice searches continue to use words
It’s not a problem with text-based target keywords. This also means that keywords that use voice are still possible to target and are just different. Voice searches don’t mean that keywords are gone.
On the front of natural language processing? It could sound like we’re playing dead horses; however, NLP still depends on words! Even though queries aren’t structured to match the requirements of search engines, however, that doesn’t mean certain terms or keywords aren’t being used in specific searches. It is still possible to discern the intention and subject matter through keywords, and we can still target exact keywords.
Keywords to guide you
The primary difference made through NLP has been that Google can comprehend semantics significantly better than it was able to. This means that it considers the contents of a page (and the site) holistically – it can understand the semantics of what the page is about. Furthermore, by connecting its understanding of individual pages, it can understand a website’s content. It can answer questions better, as well.
This means that we cannot simply use keywords in our content. The content that we produce must be distinct and beneficial for users. Imagine your site offers the possibility of a”subscription-based shaving service. You can design content that is related to a “subscription shaving service,” for example:
- Hairstyles for the face: Guides
- Tips to keep razors sharp
- Guides to different kinds of shaving creams/aftershave
And so on. This will draw those looking for things that are semantically related to shaving subscriptions and helps search engines know what our site is all about.
