Clean Your Windows with Vinegar and Baking Soda

1- Ingredients Needed to Make a Solution of Vinegar and Baking soda

  • A spray bottle made of glass
  • Microfiber fabric

2- Why Shouldn’t You Apply Baking Soda Directly?

It is considered safe to mix baking soda with vinegar and water to make a solution for cleaning the windows. It is because baking soda is generally abrasive and can cause scratches on the windows. By mixing the baking soda with vinegar, the damage is reduced, and the glass is not scratched. If you see scratches appearing on the window after the application of the baking soda, you should stop using it. However, in most cases, baking soda with vinegar is considered a very effective solution for cleaning the windows. This solution is safe, and the results will be excellent. 

3- Cleaning the Windows

Window cleaning with baking soda and vinegar is a cheap and organic trick. Apart from purchasing a commercial cleaner, you can make this homemade solution to clean the windows. Use the baking soda and vinegar solution and follow these steps to clean your windows thoroughly. The best time for cleaning the windows with baking soda is the early morning, as the sunlight is bright. When exposed to direct sunlight, the baking soda can evaporate, leaving marks on your windows. 

a- Apply Baking Soda on a Towel

First of all, sprinkle a very small amount of baking soda on a paper towel or a cloth. After that, start moving the cloth on the windows immediately. Baking soda acts as an abrasive and completely removes dirt but is soft enough not to damage the window. This step will remove all the stubborn dirt on your windows, and the cleaning afterward will get easier. 

b- Remove Leftover Baking Soda from the Window

Once the stubborn layers of dirt from the window are removed, you must remove the leftover baking soda from it. Moisten a cloth towel or a paper towel and remove the baking soda from the window with it. Make sure you have a bucket of warm water available near you so that you can properly rinse the window once the baking soda is removed.

c- Mixing the Baking Soda and Vinegar

The combination of baking soda and vinegar gives you a powerful cleaner that can remove dirt and stains from windowpanes and frames. Take the glass spray bottle and add equal amounts of baking soda and vinegar to it. Close the bottle’s cap and shake it well so that a good mixture is formed. After the ingredients have mixed properly, you can use them on the windows. Spray the solution on the windows and make sure to cover the stains properly. If there are still streaks and dirt marks, let the solution sit on them for a while. However, clean the solution immediately with a microfiber cloth if there are no streaks or spots. d- Polishing the Window

After you clean the windows with a cloth and ensure the solution has dried completely, start polishing your windows. Generally, you can use any commercial window polisher available in the market. Apply the polish on a soft microfiber cloth or a blackboard eraser, then gently move it to the windows. Let the polish get dry on its own. Polishing gives your windows a great glow that is a must after a thorough cleaning.
